Someone find the keys to Redskins Park — the NFL lockout is now officially over.

At about 2 p.m. this afternoon, a collection of NFL player representatives voted in our own backyard to ratify an agreement that was approved by NFL owners last week, a move that was not unexpected, but is, in any case, a big deal. The news means that the Washington Redskins will be getting back to work pretty soon — the Washington Post’s Football Insider blog reported earlier today that the team will likely check-in for training camp on Wednesday, and get started with practices on Thursday. (They’ll start really hitting each other, in pads, this weekend.)

Of course, of possibly greater interest, the deal between the players and the owners means that we’re on the eve of a player movement period the likes of which has never been seen before. The league will need to cram several months worth of free agency negotiations, cuts and trades into a few days — in fact, it appears likely that the Redskins will start camp far short of a full roster, and will take several spins on the personnel carousel spins over the next week or so.

Let’s see, a week of frantic negotiations in which several marquee players will likely be the genesis of ridiculous bidding wars? Sounds like a Dan Snyder dream come true.
