The concept of extending the District’s popular Circulator buses across the Anacostia River has been floating around since the beginning of 2010 — and when the District Department of Transportation scheduled a public meeting in June to discuss the planned route, it seemed closer than ever. Turns out that DDOT had a bit more tweaking to do, however — after that meeting, DDOT announced that they were going to work on the the proposed route to incorporate community suggestions. The agency promised to come back and present the reconfigured plans in a few weeks — and that time has come.

Tonight, DDOT will hold another community meeting regarding the new route at the Anacostia Library at 1800 Good Hope Road SE. The meeting, which begins at 6:30 is the last chance for the community to comment on the plans, which will likely extend the existing Union Station-Navy Yard line across the South Capitol Street Bridge and connect Historic Anacostia, Skyland, the Giant grocery at Camp Simms and the Congress Heights Metro station into the Circulator system. (If you’d like to have your thoughts heard at tonight’s meeting, email here to be placed on the testimony list.)

DDOT will release a finalized plan in September and will roll out service on October 3, if all goes according to plan.
