During D.C. Beer Week, we will be highlighting some exciting beers and events to attend every day throughout the week.

What: Homebrewer Matchup
Where: Meridian Pint, 3400 11th Street NW
When: Tuesday, August 16, 6 p.m.

Over the past few weeks, Meridian Pint has been collecting homebrew from all over the area to put head-to-head for our tasting pleasure. These aren’t your college roommate’s caustic attempts at cheap swill for the weekend. Some of these homebrewers are making fantastic beers that range from classic lagers to chocolate stouts with Thai chilies (no, seriously). Tim Prendergast, D.C.’s second certified Cicerone, says there are some real gems — and competition is stiff — so that fares well for us who get to taste for ourselves. Head over Tuesday night and put your vote in to whose beer reigns supreme.

What: Rye Beer and Spirits with Jack Rose and 3 Stars Brewing
Where: Jack Rose Dining Saloon, 2007 18th Street NW
When: Tuesday, August 16, 6 p.m.

Rye has had a recent resurgence of popularity that is riding the coattails of the classic cocktail craze and the craft liquor movement. I, for one, am very pleased with this. For some time, it was difficult to get a decent selection of rye, but now liquor athenaeums like Jack Rose have showcased this all-American spirit with the reverence it deserves. On Tuesday night, Jack Rose will be showcasing three whiskeys hand selected to go with the latest 3 Stars/Oliver Ale collaboration beer BW Rye. Meet the brewers and hear them speak about the spicy characteristics that the rye imparts on these different whiskeys and beer.

What: Meet Your Local Brewers and Brews
Where: American Ice Company, 917 V Street NW
When: Tuesday, August 16, 9 p.m.

While many of these events are geared toward the typical day walkers that prevail in this city, it is nice that American Ice Company can cater to some of us night crawlers and have a late night event that is sure to be a good time. Meet folks from DC Brau, 3 Stars, and Port City Brewing Company for a late night gathering. Beers from each brewery will be on special for the evening. After all, we’ll sleep when we’re dead, right?
