MONDAY
If you missed Olivia Mancini & the Mates at the Black Cat on Friday, she’s doing a repeat performance tonight at Galaxy Hut. She also has some new songs and a fun opener in Ruby Rae, who writes rockabilly about creatures from B-movies, apparently. Leland Sundries also opens. $5, 9 p.m.
TUESDAY
We all know that Bob Dylan is a legend who has inspired filmmakers and influenced two generations of songwriters. What surprised us in 2008 when he played at Virgin Fest (before it became FreeFest) was that he was still quite the engaging performer. Dylan will be making his next local appearance at Merriweather with the Drive-By Truckers and Leon Russell. $77.50-$40, 6 p.m.
>> DC9: Six Organs of Admittance, Donovan Quinn, Lithia Corsica. $10 in advance / $12 day of show, 9 p.m.
WEDNESDAY
Rockabilly mainstay Bill Kirchen will stop by the Birchmere with a band appropriately titled TOO MUCH FUN! (yes, that’s all caps). They’ll be opening for John Jorgensen and Albert Lee Band. $35, 7:30 p.m.
THURSDAY
We haven’t been able to justify many trips out to Jiffy Lube Live this summer, but the “Identity” tour is absolutely worth the Zipcar fee and the long trip down Route 66. The tour combines lots of A-list DJs like Steve Aoki and Chad Hugo of the Neptunes with bands like Hercules and Love Affair who know how to make a crowd dance. Other notable names on the long list of performers include Modeselektor, Le Castle Vania, The Crystal Method and some little-known guy named DJ Shadow. $40-$100, 1 p.m.
Meanwhile, U Street Music Hall will be throwing another Massive Party…their sixth Moohmbaton Massive Party to be exact. Didn’t they just throw their fifth? Not that we’re complaining if Nadastrom, Sabo, Munchi and Heartbreak are returning. $8 in advance/$10 at the door, 8 p.m.
FRIDAY
The likelihood that The Postal Service will ever put out another album, much less tour, is slim to none. But Death Cab for Cutie is still active and the beat-making half of that dynamic duo, Dntel, will be at Red Palace with The One AM Radio and Geotic. $10 in advance / $12 day of show, 9:30 p.m.
>> 9:30 Club: HARD Summer Tour with Digitalism, Switch, Destructo and Dillon Francis. $30, 8 p.m.
>> Rock and Roll Hotel: The Love Language, River James, Archivists. $12, 9 p.m.
>> Comet Ping Pong: Les Rhinocéros, Yeveto, Dustin Wong $8, 10:30 p.m.
SATURDAY
One-off reunion shows have not been difficult to come by within the past year as local legends like Government Issue and Scream have all given their long-time fans another chance to rock out. We still get excited every time and are thrilled to Marginal Man‘s name to that list. They’ll be hitting the Black Cat with Strike Anywhere and Damnation A.D. $15, 8:30 p.m.
>> Birchmere: Justin Townes Earle. $25, 7:30 p.m.
SUNDAY
Indie rock’s precociousness will be on fine display at the Black Cat as The Pomegranates and Figurines (who may not be quite as precocious on album #4) provide Sunday’s best option. $10 in advance / $12 at the door, 9 p.m.
