UPDATE (10:55 a.m.): Straight from the source: there’s no fire at the restaurant, “just soot from the oven.” Everything is okay and the restaurant will be open for business as usual today.
Around 10:15 a.m. this morning, D.C. Fire and EMS crews responded to a report of smoke that had been was spotted on the roof of Graffiato, Mike Isabella’s popular new restaurant in Penn Quarter. Fire crews are still investigating at this time, and at this point the smoke appears to be coming from a “poss[ible] buildup in [the] chimney from [a] wood burning stove” inside the building at 707 6th Street NW. We’ll obviously keep an eye on the developments and will update as information becomes available.
