Stay strong, Red Line riders — this weekend, five stations along the line will close for scheduled repairs to rails, cables, escalators and elevators.

Beginning at 10 p.m. this evening and until closing on Sunday, WMATA will shut down rail service on the Red Line between Fort Totten and Glenmont. The Fort Totten station will be the de facto terminus of the line for the weekend; the Takoma, Silver Spring, Forest Glen, Wheaton and Glenmont stations will be closed. The weekend should go down much like a similar operation two weekends ago, but just on the other side of the line: two free shuttle buses will run, one servicing all the closed stations and another operating between Fort Totten and Silver Spring. (Obviously, the Metro shuttle buses aren’t for everyone — Metro suggests taking the Y, Q, or J lines if you’re not willing to trust the usually crowded shuttles.)

On the bright side, WMATA confirms that Red Line service between Shady Grove and Fort Totten should not be affected by the closures.

As far as the rest of the system, there will also be single-tracking between Stadium-Armory and Addison Road (Blue Line), Arlington Cemetery and Pentagon City (Blue Line), and Vienna and West Falls Church (Orange Line) to contend with this weekend.
