Yesterday, of course, was the first day of public school for children in the District — and wouldn’t you know it, things went pretty smoothly. Most of the kids showed up (thanks, in part, to an ambitious effort to battle chronic truancy), and it seems as if the biggest problem was a non-functioning air conditioning unit at J.O. Wilson Elementary. Of course, it was an incredibly nice day yesterday, so that really wasn’t that big a deal.
Sure beats that time when about half the District’s students didn’t have their textbooks, eh?
