Brad Linde>> Les Chauds Lapins is a Brooklyn-based outfit that specializes in the French swing sound of the ’20s, ’30s and ’40s. On Thursday, the band will perform a 6 p.m. set on the Millennium Stage. Free.
>> Four of the area’s best young musicians have joined forces to form Cricket Fusion, a band designed to present groove-oriented jazz. The band, formed by trumpeter Joe Brotherton, includes saxophonists Elijah Balbed and Herb Scott, drummer Terrence Arnett and bassist Blake Meister. The band will play 8 and 10 p.m. sets on Thursday at Twins Jazz. $10 + $10 food/drink minimum.
>> Aisha Kahlil is probably best known for her work with groundbreaking vocal ensemble, Sweet Honey in the Rock. She is also an accomplished solo artist and will perform 8 and 10 p.m. sets on Thursday at Blues Alley. $25 + $12.50 minimum/surcharge.
>> On Friday, Jazz Night in Southwest hosts some of Baltimore’s finest, who will pay tribute to trumpeter Lee Morgan and organist Jimmy Smith. 6 to 9 p.m. $5.
>> The Nighthawks have been a mainstay of the local blues scene for nearly 40 years. The current incarnation of the band will perform 8 and 10 p.m. sets at Blues Alley on Friday. $20 + $12.50 minimum/surcharge.
>> Acre 121, the southern barbeque joint in Columbia Heights, has been hosting live music for some months. This Friday, the restaurant will throw some jazz into the mix with help from the folks at CapitalBop, who will present soul-jazz saxophonist and District native Herb Scott and his band, Cinnamonstix. 8 p.m. to 12 a.m. No cover.
>> Trumpeter Duane Eubanks comes from an impressive musical pedigree and is the younger brother of trombonist Robin Eubanks and Jay Leno bandleader Kevin Eubanks. He is coming into his own as a bandleader and will lead a group on Friday and Saturday at Bohemian Caverns. 8:30 and 10:30 p.m. sets. $15 in advance, $20 at the door.
>> Ubiquitous local saxophonist Brad Linde will lead his quartet on Friday and Saturday at Twins Jazz. His sets will feature New York-based pianist Dan Tepfer as a special guest. 9 and 11 p.m. sets. $15 + $10 food/drink minimum.
>> HR-57 hosts regular Antonio Parker on Friday and Saturday. 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. $8.
>> Friday marks the start to a 3-day celebration to commemorate the opening of the MLK memorial. The Millennium Stage performances will feature a variety of African-American artists ranging from gospel to spoken word and contemporary jazz. 6 p.m. showtimes. Free.
>> BlackNotes is a local ensemble that ties together multiple strains of the African diaspora, combining horns, percussion and spoken word. The band will play a 7 p.m. show on Sunday at Bohemian Caverns. $15 in advance, $18 at the door.
>> Chaise Lounge is a band comprised of some of the area’s most experienced musicians, playing a brand of pop-jazz that was popular in coffee shops and college campuses during the early ’60s. They begin a monthly residency at IOTA on Sunday. 7:30 p.m. $15.
>> After a successful West Coast tour with The Funk Ark, trumpeter Joe Herrera returns to Twins Jazz to host the Sunday Jazz Lounge along with guitarist Rodney Richardson. 8 p.m. $5.
>> Combining the music of her native Kenya with soulful vocals and empowering spoken word, Anna Mwalagho, is a local artist to watch. She’ll perform at the Bossa Bistro & Lounge on Sunday. 9:30 p.m. $5.
>> Jazzy Blu, a local smooth jazz band, brings its sultry sounds to Blues Alley on Sunday for 8 and 10 p.m. sets. $18 + $12.50 minimum/surcharge.
>> A native of Baghdad, Rahim Alhaj is a virtuoso oud musician and composer. He’ll perform on Monday as part of the Millennium Stage Happy Hour series, in which attendees can enjoy the music with drinks from cash bar. 5:30 to 8 p.m. Free.
>> Blue Monday Blues hosts powerful vocalist Nadine Rae and her band. 6 to 9 p.m. $5.
>> Saxophonists Lyle Link and Marty Nau continue their Tuesday night residency at Twins Jazz. 8 and 10 p.m. sets. $10.
