FRIDAY
MOVIE: Spend the evening (rain or shine!) with your favorite neighborhood ogre at the Rosslyn Outdoor Film Festival’s (Gateway Park at the base of Key Bridge, 1300 Lee Highway, Arlington) screening of Shrek, their final movie of the summer. Dusk. Free.
COMEDY: Comedian Tom Green is back at DC Improv (1140 Connecticut Avenue NW) Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Shows at 8 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. $25.
>> Whoops: the comedy event we mentioned in last Friday’s Weekend Picks is actually taking place tonight. Comedy on H presents actor and stand-up comedian Ari Shaffer, who is originally from Silver Spring and has appeared on HBO and Comedy Central, at the Atlas Performing Arts Center (1333 H Street NE) tonight and tomorrow. Local comedians Adrian Rodney and Lafayette Wright will open. 8 p.m. and $10:30 p.m. Tickets: $12.

MUSIC: The 9:30 Club (815 V Street NW) is honoring the late King of Pop with a Michael Jackson Birthday Celebration tonight. DJ Dredd’s on music, Robin Bell brings video, and Grap Luva is hosting. 9 p.m. $15.
>> The Kids in America new wave dance party is back at Dahlak (1771 U Street NW) tonight playing a-ha, Information Society, Siouxsie and the Banshees, the Creatures, and your requests. SATURDAY
FESTIVAL: It’s the first weekend of the Maryland Renaissance Festival (1821 Crownsville Road, Annapolis, Maryland), which runs (rain or shine!) through October 23. Come out for turkey legs, sword swallowers, jousting and other forms of medieval revelry. 10 a.m.-7 p.m. Children $9, seniors $16, adults $19.
BEER: Dogfish Head and Sierra Nevada are joining forces and rounding up seven mobile eateries for a Food Truck Beer Dinner at Das Bullpen (outside Nationals Ballpark, 1500 S Capitol Street SW) on Saturday. Pair dishes from CapMac with DFH Vintage Olde School Barleywine, Porcmobile with DFH/Sierra Nevada Life & Limb, Stix with Sierra Nevada Jack & Ken’s Ale, Hula Girl Truck with DFH/Sierra Limb & Life, Doug the Food Dude with Sierra Nevada Foam, Eat Wonky with Sierra Nevada Vienna Style Lager, and Sweet Ladies Bakery with DFH Black & Red. Proceeds from the event will be donated to Living Classrooms. 6-9 p.m. Tickets: $75.

MOVIE: Bad weather is perfect for sitting in all day watching movies. And if you take that all day part literally, you should check out the 24-hour documentary, 24 Hours Berlin – A Day in the Life being screened at the Goethe Institute (812 Seventh Street NW) from 6 a.m. Saturday to 6 a.m. Sunday. ART: The Artist Tribute 2 exhibit at Irvine Gallery (1412 14th Street NW) concludes this Saturday with a Grand Finale Block Party. Yoko K and Will Eastman are bringing the music, and Flying Dog Brewery are the beer sponsors. The festivities begin at 6 p.m.
PARTY: If you thought Hurricane Irene ruined your plans to sink your toes in some sand this weekend, all is not lost. Town Tavern (2323 Eighteenth Street NW) is importing two tons of sand for their Flip Flop Farewell Bash. Drink specials include $3 domestic bottles, $4 beach shooters, and $5 Sex on the Beaches. MUSIC: Celebrate the Godfather of Go-Go Chuck Brown’s 75th Birthday at the 9:30 Club (815 V Street NW) Saturday night. Get pumped for the festivities by checking out his memorable tiny desk concert for NPR. Just try to not dance, just try. 9 p.m. $30.

FOOD & DRINK: Ba Bay (633 Pennsylvania Avenue SE) is throwing a Crab Feast this Sunday, serving up Vietnamese salt and pepper crabs, scallion butter, Vietnamese slaw, and finishing that off with bacon-chocolate chip cookies. MOVIE: Since the Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial dedication ceremony has been postponed, head to the National Archives (700 Pennsylvania Avenue NW) for a screening of the documentary The March, about the 1963 March on Washington, during which King delivered his “I Have a Dream” speech. 12 p.m. Free.
