MONDAY

>> H Street is apparently the place to be tonight if one happens to be Canadian. Toronto power pop act Sloan will be doing a co-headlining tour with You Am I at the Rock and Roll Hotel. $17, 9:00 p.m.

>> Meanwhile, a duo from the other side of the continent, Japandroids, bring their straightforward balls-out rock from Vancouver to Red Palace. If the audience is especially good, they may even cover mcLusky. Bass Drum of Death opens. $14, 8:30 p.m.

>> Black Cat: Starfucker, Beat Connection, Alexico. $13, 8:00 p.m.

TUESDAY

>> One festival happened in Columbia, Maryland on Saturday and another will be there this upcoming Saturday, but D.C.’s festival that brings in artists both internationally renowned and locally grown is the Sonic Circuits Festival of Experimental Music. It technically begins on Wednesday, but the Pre-Festival Fundraiser starts at the MiG Bar with Lost Civilizations, Slut Walk and Immanent Voiceless. Check DCist tomorrow for our comprehensive Festival Preview and look for artist interviews during the week. $5, 8:00 p.m.

>> Black Cat: Pree (album release), Birdlips. $10, 8:00 p.m.

WEDNESDAY

>> While not as famous (yet) as father Neil Finn, New Zealand’s Liam Finn excels at creating pop gems that get a little folky and a little dissonant, but also showcase his love of the Fab Four. He’ll be at the Black Cat with The Young Evils. $13, 8:00 p.m.

THURSDAY

>> Newport Folk Fest-tested and Paste Magazine-approved, The Low Anthem will be hitting the 9:30 Club with William Elliott Whitmore. $20, 7:00 p.m.

>> Black Cat: Frut Bats, Vetiver, Citay. $13 in advance/$15 day of show, 8:00 p.m.

>> Iota: Vandaveer, Sean Rowe. $15, 8:30 p.m.

>> Velvet Lounge: Carnivores, Mood Rings, The Plums, Collin Crowe (of Buildings). $8, 9:00 p.m.

FRIDAY

>> Lupe Fiasco just keeps on hitting larger and larger venues every time he comes through D.C. This time, the Chicago emcee is coming to Merriweather Post Pavilion and bringing a couple of friends, including Miguel, Tinie Tempah, Big Sean (who was just in town for FreeFest) and hometown favorite, Wale. $60 pavilion/$36 lawn, 5:30 p.m.

>> Black Cat: Savage Republic, Tone (20th Anniversary Show), Caspian. $13/$15. 9:00 p.m.

>> DC9: Darkest Hour, Supreme Commander, Warchild. $10, 6:30 p.m.

>> Rock and Roll Hotel: Neon Indian, Com Truise. $15 in advance/$17 at the door, 10:00 p.m.

SATURDAY

>> Jeff Mangum enlisted them for his upcoming All Tomorrow’s Parties, but except for such special events British post-punk act The Raincoats very rarely plays. Don’t miss the special opportunity to see them come to Comet Ping Pong with Grass Widow and Felt Letters (featuring Ian Svenonius). Not many tickets are left. $20, 10:30 p.m.

>> 9:30 Club: Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, Polica. $20, 10:00 p.m.

>> Merriweather Post Pavilion: HFStival featuring The Avett Brothers, Clutch, Dr. Dog, Flogging Molly and more. $50 pavilion/$35 lawn, 10:00 a.m.

SUNDAY

>> With a name like Molotov, you might expect an explosive Russian band. Actually, it’s an explosive Mexican band, mixing rock and hip-hop and exploring heavy issues such as Mexico/U.S. relations in two different languages. See this multi-cultural act at the 9:30 Club. $25, 7:00 p.m.
