In other, somewhat less obvious budget gap-related news: the District Department of Motor Vehicles will be raising rates on some transactions, including fees for residential parking permits and change of address requests.

It’ll now cost most residents $35 to apply for a residential parking permit — which allows for on-street parking in any of eight zones around the city. Other changes include an increase from $7 to $20 for duplicate licenses, permits, ID cards and registration cards, and change of address requests. In short, this conceivably means that if you move from one side of the city to the other and don’t have a garage, you might need to pony up 55 bucks to park on the street.

The new fees go into effect on October 1.
