During yesterday’s one-year birthday party for Capital Bikeshare, Terry Bellamy, the director of the D.C. Department of Transportation, had big news — 50 more stations and 500 more bikes will be added to the system in early 2012.
This expansion follows the July announcement that 32 more stations with 265 bikes would be added throughout the District this fall. All told, it means that by mid-2012, the District alone will have 184 stations. Arlington now has 18 stations, and over the summer officials met with residents to plan an additional 30 to be installed in the coming year.
Currently, the system has 1,100 bikes at 110 stations across D.C. and Arlington serving over 17,000 annual members.
