>> Veteran local drummer Harold Mann will be leading a group on Friday at Jazz Night in Southwest. 6 to 9 p.m. $5.
>> Vocalist Madeleine Peyroux broke out in the mid-’90s because of her soulful renditions of blues tunes from the ’20s and ’30s. For her latest release, Standing on a Rooftop, she expanded her palette of American roots music and collaborated with a diverse set of artists. She, and opener Nellie McKay, will perform on Friday at the Music Center at Strathmore. 8 p.m. $35-$58.
>> Federico Gonzalez Pena is a musician whose keyboard skills have led to tours with luminaries like bassist Marcus Miller, vocalist Cassandra Wilson and R&B singers Me’shell N’Degeocello and Maxwell. Pena will lead a quartet through 8:30 and 10:30 p.m. sets on Friday and Saturday at Bohemian Caverns. $15.
>> Gary Burton re-invented the vibraphone with his groundbreaking four mallet technique. Long known for surrounding himself with young musicians, he brings a gifted group to Blues Alley on Friday and Saturday for 8 and 10 p.m. sets. Alif Laila.>> Those interested in Indian music should head to Eleanor Roosevelt High School in Greenbelt on Saturday, where some of the finest musicians from the subcontinent’s classical tradition will give a recital. Artists include vocalist Dr. M. Balamurali Krishna, who has attained India’s highest honor for artistic achievement, and Grammy nominee Ronu Majumdar. 6 p.m. $20-$100. >> There is more classical Indian music happening on Sunday to commemorate Mahatma Gandhi’s birth. The Dakshina/Daniel Phoenix Singh Dance Co. is staging a recital featuring sitarist Alif Laila at the Westminster Presbyterian Church. >> A native of Portugal, Carmen Souza infuses a jazz style with music from her ancestral Cape Verdean roots. She’ll perform on Tuesday at the Millennium Stage. 6 p.m. Free.
>> Pianist Monika Herzig came to the States from her native Germany to study jazz. Now a faculty member at Indiana University’s prestigious music school, she has also started to put out albums to rave reviews. >> Guitar legend Pat Metheny‘s last visit to Strathmore fused contemporary jazz with cutting edge technology. He returns to the Music Center on Tuesday in a more intimate setting, performing in a duo with virtuoso bassist Larry Grenadier. 8 p.m. $38-$68.
