Garbage collection was one complaint at Fiesta DC.

A few weeks ago, we reported that the annual Fiesta DC in Mt. Pleasant wasn’t a celebration for everyone — some neighbors complained of nightmarish traffic, public drunkenness and a whole lot of trash.

Well, it looks like those residents may not have much to worry about next year — the Post reports that Fiesta DC organizers are looking for more space for the yearly celebration of Latino heritage, and might be plotting a move to 14th Street as a new locale for the festivities.

Maria Patricia Corrales, president of Fiesta DC, was down at the D.C. Council today, pitching the idea of moving the festival to 14th and Meridian Streets NW. The move would make sense, because the festival would have more space to work with and would follow the migration of the city’s Latino residents from Mt. Pleasant towards Georgia Avenue and Petworth.

But Councilmember Jim Graham (D-Ward 1) isn’t a big fan of the idea, noting that the new location would be in front of a firehouse and that it was similarly proposed — and shot down — two years ago. Graham instead proposed moving the Parade of Nations that takes place during the festival to 16th Street and leaving vendors and stages on Mt. Pleasant Street.

If the festival were to move, it would follow the Unity Market, whose vendors were forced to move from their Adams Morgan location last week. Some of the vendors have agreed to relocate to a private lot located in the 3500 block of 14th Street.
