Now, we’ve seen read about strange attempts at getaways, but here’s one for the record books: this morning, at least one person robbed a man on Lawrence Street NE, then hopped into a car which was stolen earlier in the day. The problem? The driver apparently was awful behind the wheel.
In the span of only a few blocks, the car proceeded to hit a fire hydrant, then the driver crashed into the home of an 88-year-old woman on the 2600 block of 24th Street NE. The elderly woman, who was not injured in the crash, then tried to chase down the robbers along with her neighbors, though they weren’t successful.
Firefighters spent the afternoon working to shore up the damaged home and fix the fire hydrant; police are still investigating the robbery and car theft.
