Sometimes, it’s far easier to portray these things with maps.

That’s right — in case you forgot, WMATA will be closing the Shaw, U Street and Columbia Heights stations from 10 p.m. this evening until the system opens on Tuesday, October 11. Of course, that’s not the only thing you should keep in mind if you’re planning on riding the rails this weekend:
>> In addition to the Green/Yellow Line closures, both East Falls Church and West Falls Church on the Orange Line will also be shut down for the weekend. It’s a really busy weekend — what between the various protests going on this weekend, the Taste of D.C. festival downtown, the first two Capitals home games at Verizon Center, and so forth — so if you’re traveling on any like but the Red, you’ll want to factor in some additional time to get around underground.
>> That said, Metrorail service — what is running — will open early on Sunday morning for the Army Ten-Miler. Metro will open at 6 a.m., and will operate additional Blue Line trains during the morning and afternoon to get people to and from the race.
>> On Monday, Columbus Day, Metro will operate on a Saturday schedule, so that means even if you don’t need to work around the Green and Orange Line closures, you’ll need to factor in some additional time, as trains and buses will run less frequently.
>> There are also a few Metrobus detours planned for this weekend you should be aware of.
