>> Tomorrow night at the Phillips Collection, celebrate the annual J. McLaughlin Memorial Staff Show. This annual exhibit features over 35 works created by artists employed at the museum. To mark the exhibition and the celebration of the museum’s 90th anniversary, Thursday’s reception will feature artist talks, drinks, light hors d’oeuvres, and music. 5 to 8 p.m. Suggested donation.

>> Get on your dancing shoes and your trendy clothes because Hirshhorn After Hours is back this Friday night. Dance the night away to the Crystal Ark and take in the museum’s current exhibits and gallery talks. Hurry, these events usually sell out and tickets must be purchased in advance. $25.

>> Who says D.C. doesn’t have style? Readyset DC hosts a fashion-filled weekend with a runway show, shopping and a designer meet and greet, all to highlight the talents of local emerging designers. It all starts Friday with the designer meet and greet, then, on Saturday, see the full collections in a runway show. Tickets to Fashion District Fall/Winter 2011 – THE SHOW are $40.

>> Tonight, join Hamiltonian Gallery for an artist talk with Nora Howell and David Page, whose solo shows of photography and installation art are both currently on view at the gallery. 7 p.m. Please RSVP to jackie[@]hamiltoniangallery.com.

>> Agents of Change: An Exhibition of Artists’ Books and Prints with a Social Conscience showcases the work of 12 artists that document and explore poverty, women’s rights, race relations, and environmental sustainability at the Corcoran College of Art + Design’s Gallery 31. Opening reception on Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. Then on Friday, artist Robin Price will host a lecture and overview of her work at 6 p.m.

>> One of our favorite arts organizations hosts two exhibits this weekend. Arts Enables opens Outsider Art inside the Beltway, a juried show highlighting the works by artists of all stripes found in the D.C. area, and A sampling from outside the Beltway, a survey of emerging artists from Maine to Hawaii with with developmental and mental disabilities. Opening 2 to 5 p.m., Saturday.

>> At DCAC, take in a performance art piece by Annika B. Lewis titled LET’S GET PERSONAL, in which Lewis uses humor, absurdity and the self-help culture to deliver a provocative performance about the role of personal branding in attaining professional success. Friday and Saturday at 7:30 p.m. General Admission $15, $12 for DCAC members.

>> Morton Fine Art presents Obbligato, a solo exhibition of new paintings by artist Jules Arthur opening this Friday. This body of work celebrates some of the best of what we know as the American sound or the American experience. 6 to 8 p.m.

>> Bethesda Art Walk is back this Friday, featuring several opening receptions. See new work at Gallery B and Waverly Street Gallery, among others. 6 to 9 p.m.

Art Notes

  • It’s Second Thursday at the Torpedo Factory. This Thursday, explore the past and celebrate the present with exhibition receptions in Target Gallery, The Art League Gallery, and Site 2 and 3 Galleries. Visitors can show their own unique personalities with a Do-It-Yourself Mask Making Project and satisfy their sweet tooth at a candy buffet. 6 to 9 p.m.
  • Have a nose for a deal? An eye for a bargain? This weekend, Pyramid Atlantic is hosting an Upscale Yard Sale. Not your typical yard sale, this upscale version boasts antiques, furniture, collectibles and more donated from members and friends to support Pyramid’s arts and educational programs. Saturday and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • until every shape has found its city opens at the Greater Reston Arts Center on Saturday. This exhibit explores the intersection of art, literature, and architecture through complex sculptures and drawings that transcend literal interpretations. Opening reception from 5 to 7 p.m.
  • The Washington School of Photography will host Cornucopia, a women’s art exhibit produced by the Capitol Arts Network to benefit a Montgomery County food bank. Opening Friday from 6 to 9 p.m.
  • Caminos, CAMINANTE: A Path as we Travel opens Saturday from 7 to 10 p.m. at artdc Gallery at the Lustine Center.
  • Sugarloaf Crafts Festival takes place this weekend at the Montgomery County Fair Grounds. See over 250 booths filled with contemporary and fine art, Friday through Sunday. Tickets $7-$9.
