Some people wake up at 3 a.m. to stand in line for an iPhone, others for a cheap wedding dress. But that they did so on the same day and only a few miles from each other?

The Washingtonian bravely sent a reporter to cover the annual Running of the Brides at the Friendship Heights Filene’s Basement. The event, where hundreds of women line up for hours to fight over low-priced wedding dresses, is about as much a cultural phenomenon as the long lines that precede the release of just about any new Apple product. And, I might add, about as crazy to ponder.

We wonder — might there may an engaged couple out there that split duties, with the man heading to the Apple store in Bethesda and the woman pushing her way past fierce competition for that perfect dress in Friendship Heights?
