WMATA Installing New, Brighter Platform Lighting
One DCist reader couldn’t help but notice something new on his commute through the Friendship Heights Metro station this morning — this incredibly bright light fixture.
WMATA believes that the man who was struck by a train at the Friendship Heights station yesterday afternoon — causing massive delays and confusion during yesterday’s afternoon commute — was on the tracks accidentally.

Friendship Heights Station Temporarily Closed
UPDATE (4:13 p.m.): The station has reopened, according to Metro. WMATA reports that the Friendship Heights station on the Red Line is temporarily closed due to a power outage. Shuttle buses are running from the Tenleytown station. There’s no word on whether or not the outage is due to the heavy thunderstorms that rolled through the region a short time ago….
Another Metro emergency preparedness exercise to keep in mind: later this week, the Friendship Heights Metro station will host a training drill that simulates a report of gunfire in the station. The mock shooting will involve two shooters and multiple casualties. According to the D.C.
