The 39-year-old McLean resident who was struck by a train at the Clarendon station on October 11 has now died, Metro officials have confirmed.
The man, who has not yet been identified by name, was caught on camera walking to the end of the platform at the Clarendon station during the afternoon rush, then jumping in front of an Orange Line train. He suffered head injuries and multiple broken bones, and had been in serious condition at a local intensive care unit. The incident caused a huge backup along the line — hundreds of riders were stuck inside a train in a tunnel near the station, and service was shut down between Ballston and Rosslyn, causing massive lines and forcing many commuters above-ground.
According to Metro spokesperson Dan Stessel, the investigation into the man’s death is “technically still open, but all indications are that he intentionally placed himself in the path of the oncoming train.”
If the man’s death is officially ruled a suicide, it would be the sixth to occur on Metro tracks this year.
