Bread for the City (1525 7th Street NW) participates with a Food Day Fair, featuring food tastings, speakers, and films from 4:30-8 p.m. The Embassy of Italy (3000 Whitehaven Street NW) will host the talk “The Edible Risorgimento: Pellegrino Artusi’s The Science in the Kitchen and the Art of Eating Well, or the Making of a Nation” at 7 p.m. And Busboys and Poets (14th and V Streets NW) will screen the documentary Community of Gardeners at 6:30 p.m.

MOVIES: Arlington Cinema and Drafthouse (2903 Columbia Pike, Arlington) has two options for its dollar movie night tonight: Cowboys & Aliens at 7:30 p.m. and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 at 9:50 p.m. $1 each movie.
MUSIC: Brazilian dance-rock band CSS plays the 9:30 Club (815 V Street NW) tonight with MEN, EMA, and Drag. 7 p.m. $25.
BOOKS: SNL alum Molly Shannon reads from her new children’s book Tilly the Trickster at the Barnes & Noble at Tysons Corner Mall (7851 L. Tysons Corner Center, McLean). 4 p.m. Free.
TALK: Painter Nana Bagdavadze and sculptor Rebecca Kamen discuss how “a scientific way of knowing the world has moved them and become central to their work” at Science Cafe’s “Two Artists and Their Science” talk at Busboys and Poets 5th and K location (1025 5th Street NW). 6:30-8:30 p.m. Free.

TUESDAY: The annual High Heel Race, in its 25th year, takes over 17th Street (between P and S Streets NW) this Tuesday for a high speed competition between elaborately costumed drag queens. This year, there will also be a food truck rally at 17th and O Streets. The race takes place at 9 p.m., but streets close and the fun begins at 6 p.m. Free to attend, $40 for VIP Tent.
WEDNESDAY: For two nights this week, China’s Bejing Dance Theater will perform a mix of ballet, modern, and traditional dance at the Kennedy Center (2700 F Street NW). 8 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday. $22-$60.
THURSDAY: The original cast of Mystery Science Theater 3000 comes to GW’s Lisner Auditorium (730 21st Street NW) to live mock the 1976 horror movie Rattlers. 8 p.m. Tickets: $25-$35.
FRIDAY: DJ Questlove of The Roots comes to town for the Brightest Young Things’ Night at the Newseum IV in 3D party (555 Pennsylvania Avenue NW). Since it’s Halloween time, costumes are encouraged, and there will also be access to the exhibits, food and drink, ping pong tables, and more. 9 p.m. Tickets: $25 in advance, $30 at the door.
SATURDAY: ChurchKey (1337 14th Street NW) is throwing a Halloween Bash this Saturday. Wear your best, most creative costume and you could win prizes like a private beer tasting for you and your friends, and rare beers from Greg Engert’s cellar. 8-11 p.m. Free entry.
SUNDAY: The Tilted Torch Spook-o-Rama at the Red Palace (1212 H Street NE) is an evening of “horrifying hooping, eerily haunting belly dance, and wicked burlesque.” It’s also another chance to show off your costume. Doors 8:30 p.m., show 9 p.m. $10 in advance, $15 day of.
