SATURDAY

Japan’s Boris apparently decided the name of their 2002 LP Heavy Rocks was so aptly manifesto-like that they decided to reuse the album title (and cover design) for an entirely new collection of crunching, metal-inflected songs released in May on the same day as Attention Please, a somewhat gentler record that strikes out in some broader musical directions. Catch the group’s hard-hitting live show at the Black Cat on Saturday night, with support sets by art-rockers Asobi Seksu and black-metal quartet Liturgy. $15. 9 p.m.

>> The Fillmore Silver Spring: Chromeo. $25-$30. 8 p.m.

SUNDAY

When they’re not busy soundtracking celebrity Fifa Soccer 12 duels, NYC electro-math standouts Battles are also one of the more dynamic and engaging live bands around, even after the departure of former singer/guitarist Tyondai Braxton. Now operating as a three-piece, the group makes a Sunday night appearance at the 9:30 Club, with Tokyo-based noise-rockers Nisennenmondai offering an opening set. $20. 7 p.m.
