Nico Dauphiné, the National Zoo researcher and “Apocalypse Meow” author who was arrested and accused of poisoning feral cats around Meridian Hill Park earlier this year, was found guilty on animal cruelty charges in D.C. Superior Court today.

Last week, Dauphiné took the witness stand and denied the allegations leveled against her. When she was asked if she poisoned the cats, Dauphiné said “absolutely not.” It appears as if the video evidence of Dauphiné apparently planting something from her purse into a feeder where the feral animals were known to feed was enough to convince Superior Court Judge Truman Morrison that she was indeed trying to poison the animals.

“Our Humane Law Enforcement Department works hard to bring justice to abused animals in our city, and we can say with confidence that justice was served today,” said Lisa LaFontaine, President and CEO of the Washington Humane Society, which played a large role in the investigation of the claims.

Dauphiné will be sentenced on November 21; she faces up to 180 days in jail and a $1,000 fine.
