This weekend, Metro’s cavalcade of major pre-holiday track maintenance rolls on, as five Red Line stations — Takoma, Silver Spring, Forest Glen, Wheaton and Glenmont — will be closed to allow for rail renewal work.

Shuttle buses will replace rail service between the Glenmont and Fort Totten stations beginning at 10 p.m. this evening through closing on Sunday. Red Line service between Shady Grove and Fort Totten should not be affected. In addition, Orange and Blue Line riders will experience single-tracking delays between the McPherson Square and Foggy Bottom stations this weekend. Metro recommends adding in about 20 minutes to travel time for riders using this section of the system.

While we’re on the subject of track work and delays, anyone using National Airport between November 18 and 20 should take note that buses will replace Metrorail trains on the Blue and Yellow lines between the King Street and Pentagon City stations. The Crystal City, National Airport and Braddock Road stations will be closed that weekend. Metro says that the weekend “is not an especially busy weekend for Metrorail ridership” at the National Airport station, but the closures could put a cramp in your Thanksgiving travel plans, if they involve flying.
