This afternoon, police and emergency personnel responded to the scene of a car which had been flipped on its roof at the intersection of Connecticut Avenue and R Street NW.

According to MPD, it’s not yet clear how the car managed to flip upside down, though this is not an unheard of occurrence — a vehicle overturned at 22nd and P Streets last year after it slammed the brakes while trying to stop at a red light.) There was one individual on the inside the car at the time of the accident, but a police spokesperson was unable to confirm whether the person was currently alive or not. Witnesses on the scene say that the driver was extricated from the wreck alive, but that has not yet been confirmed.

Traffic in the area has obviously been backed up a little bit due to the investigation.
