Look, if you haven’t yet taken a couple of minutes to listen to the newly released recordings of former Prince George’s County Executive Jack Johnson and his wife, former county councilmember Leslie Johnson, talking on the phone in the minutes before federal agents busted down their door and took them into custody on bribery-related charges, we’re going to go ahead and recommend that you do that now.

Perhaps the most memorable part of the recording captures the sound of a clearly flustered Leslie Johnson attempting to flush checks down the toilet:

“Oh God, I don’t see a check,” Leslie Johnson said. “I don’t see any check, Jack, and they’re just banging and banging.”

“Let them bang, let them bang,” her husband responded.

Leslie Johnson found the check, which led to what prosecutors called destruction of evidence in their federal corruption investigation as that check was flushed down the toilet.

“Want me to flush it?” she asked her husband.

“Yeah,” he said. “Flush that.”

The sound of a toilet flushing follows.

Both “Put It In Your Panties” and “You Want Me To Put It Down The Toilet?” are clips which, if there’s any justice, will long live in infamy. The Johnsons are scheduled to be sentenced in early December.
