This morning, DCPL announced that it is partnering with Freegal Music to offer selections from Sony Music — the record label of the Foo Fighters, Johnny Cash and Stevie Wonder, among hundreds of others — and independent artists to offer free music to library card holders. Now, the terms of the downloads are pretty restrictive: users can only download three songs per week; but the downloads are theirs to keep, and the songs can be downloaded from the library’s website, so you don’t actually have to go to a branch to try it.
It’s good to see DCPL expanding their digital collections, albeit slowly. The free downloads are the latest addition to DCPL’s downloadable offerings — the library already offers digital books and movie downloads.
