>> Opening at Flashpoint Gallery, in partnership with Solas Nua, Tickling the Ivories is an exhibit by Aoife Collins whose work blurs the line between high and low culture, reflecting a fascination with how history, social mores and fashion, collide. See Collins de-constructed and re-constructed work at the opening reception on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m.

Starting today at 7 p.m., take part in Darkroom Portraits where you can create a portrait, in the darkroom! >> At Adah Rose Gallery see Magnifying Memories….Isolating Ideas. The exhibit includes the work of three D.C. based woman photographers, all working in film. Opening reception is this Saturday from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

>> During the summer of 2011, the band Beauty Pill, recorded their latest album at Artisphere’s Black Box Theatre. To celebrate, The Immersive Ideal opens at the Artisphere. This exhibit is a multimedia installation which chronicles the making of their album. (DCist will be running an interview with Beauty Pill bandleader Chad Clark later this week.) >> Studio Gallery opens two new shows as part of the Dupont Circle First Friday openings. Reverb + Echo features photographs of everyday life in post-earthquake Haiti, and prints inspired by each of those images. a pair of scopes showcases graphite portraits and photographic landscapes. >> On Saturday, the Washington Printmakers Gallery hosts the 13th Annual January Invitational, featuring works by members of the New York Society of Etchers. Opening reception from 1 to 4 p.m.

>> A Natural Progression, an exhibit of new oil paintings by Edward Bear Miller, opens at the Foundry Gallery on Friday, 6 to 8 p.m.

>> In lieu of a solo exhibit in January 2012, The Art League Gallery will host a group preview exhibit featuring work by the artists who have been selected for solo exhibits in 2012. The 2012 solo preview opens Thursday.

>> Artist Warriors: Post Apocalyptic Adventure opens this Friday. In this show, surviving artists document an inhospitable world with art and fashions to move through it including apocalyptic era clothing. At Del Ray Artisans gallery at 7 p.m.
