>> Jazz Night in Southwest will celebrate its 13th anniversary on Friday with a group of local all-stars under the direction of pianist Vince Evans. 6 to 9 p.m. $5.
>> Drummer Jimmy Cobb is a legendary drummer best known for his work on Miles Davis’s seminal Kind of Blue recording. The D.C. native will be leading a band this Friday and Saturday at Bohemian Caverns. 8:30 and 10:30 p.m. sets. $30. Stay tuned for a full preview.
>> Senegalese musician Abdou Mboup was a key figure in developing the mbalax style of West African dance music. He now resides in the U.S. and is on the faculty at New York’s New School. He will be at Twins Jazz this Friday and Saturday with his band, Waakaw, which translates to “country boys” in his native Wolof. 9 and 11 p.m. sets. $15 + $10 food/drink minimum.
>> Saxophonist Antonio Parker is a regular at HR-57, and this Friday and Saturday he will be playing at the club to celebrate the release of his new album. 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. $15.
>> Saxophonist Jeff Antoniuk was one of the first jazz artists we interviewed here at DCist. On Saturday, he’ll be leading a quartet through a night of fiery Brazilian rhythms at Phillips Seafood in Rockville. 8 p.m. $20 admission includes a complimentary drink.
>> Smooth jazz star Marcus Johnson plays The Hamilton on Saturday. 8:30 p.m. $25.
>> Local afrobeat band Chopteeth opens for groovemeisters Ozomatli on Saturday at the 9:30 Club. 9 p.m. doors. $25 + fees.
>> CapitalBop‘s D.C. Jazz Loft series always delivers quality music by the city’s finest young talent. It’s home for the past year has been the Red Door(443 Eye Street NW), which will unfortunately be shutting it’s doors next month. As a result, this month’s final loft event at the venue is sure to be special. Performers include Brian Settles, Kris Funn, Elijah Balbed and more. 7 p.m. $10. BYOB.
>> Min Xiao-Fen plays the pipa, a traditional four-stringed instrument from her native China. Xiao-Fen has adapted this instrument to play jazz, and on Sunday she will perform works by Thelonious Monk and Miles Davis at Bohemian Caverns. 7 and 9 p.m. sets. $20.
>> Brad Linde is among the city’s busiest bandleaders, steering a variety of ensembles. On Sunday, the saxophonist leads a sextet at The Hamilton. 7:30 p.m. $15.
>> Soul Cycle is a jazz/funk band out of Brooklyn’s fertile music scene. They will be at Bohemian Caverns on Tuesday for 8 and 10 p.m. sets. $15.
