It’s true. We’re not only weather wimps, but we seem to have the capacity to complain when the city over-prepares as much as when it under-prepares. (Even PBS’s Gwen Ifill got in on the action.) Today, Mayor Vince Gray spoke a word of truth to one resident.
I’m not sure that hiring a weather forecaster would be a wise use of city funds, given that just about anyone can read the Capital Weather Gang for free. Maybe we should blame them.
UPDATE, 2 p.m.: Well, imagine that. I’ve been told that the District does have contracts with professional weather forecasters. According to the Post’s Mike DeBonis: “In 2011, DDOT paid $6,300 to Telvent; DPW paid $7,600, DCPS $6,800 to Accuweather.” You learn something new every day.
