Good morning, Washington. We reminded you last week, but today’s really your last chance. If you want to vote in the April 3 D.C. primary and don’t belong to one of the city’s three main political parties, today’s the last day you have to join a party or sit the primary out. The D.C. Board of Elections and Ethics has all of the information you need on joining or changing political parties by the end of the day.
Majority of Area Residents Want Wider Highways: Sixty-five percent of area residents would like to see wider highways, according to a WTOP poll, while opinion is evenly divided on whether we need more regional highways. The one thing that seems to attract almost unanimous support, though, is public transit. According to the poll, 91 percent of area residents want more public transit options, while 90 percent think that walkable neighborhoods are a good thing and that more jobs should be located closer to where people live. In related news, WAMU reports that Virginia is digging in its heels over its threat to withhold critical funding for Phase 2 of the Silver Line if union labor is used to build it.
D.C. Resident Killed Over Dog Poop: Yes, seriously. WJLA reports that a Ward 7 man was killed on Sunday after an argument over a dog pooping on his lawn turned violent. Ellsworth Colbert allegedly stabbed his 37-year-old neighbor Robert Wright during the fight; Colbert has been charged with second degree murder while armed and will appear in court today. Colbert is a neighborhood activist and volunteer on the campaign of Kevin Chavous, Jr., who is challenging Councilmember Yvette Alexander (D-Ward 7) for a seat on the D.C. Council.

This Day in DCist: On this day in 2011, a WMAL host resigns under pressure for making anti-Islamic comments. In 2010, Michelle Obama donated her inauguration gown to the Smithsonian and there were more rumors of a new location for Dr. Dremo’s.
