Photo by @nevinmartellThere isn’t much that celebrity Chef José Andrés hasn’t done, and today he crosses off one more thing on that list—he’s launching his own food truck.
Yesterday Andrés presented Pepe, his new Spanish sandwich food truck, which will serve hungry D.C. office workers for the first time today. The truck will offer eight sandwiches, from the basic ham and cheese (with Serrano and Manchego, of course) for $9 to his take on the steak sandwich, the pepito de ternera, for $14. (Eater has the full menu here.)
According to the Huffington Post, Andrés sees the truck as a means to test the market for his other restaurants:
At a press preview Monday afternoon, Andres called the effort a learning experience. “It’s like a toy to have,” he said of of the truck. “I think every chef should have a food truck. It’s a good way to test the markets, to invest in meeting the future restaurant goers. So you know, this is a good thing for more business.”
Pepe will be near the National Portrait Gallery today starting at 11:30 a.m., but like with every other food truck, make sure to check its Twitter feed for updated info.
