>> The Intersections arts festival continues this weekend at the Atlas with a number of jazz and world music offerings. Tonight, local vocalist Andrea Wood will give free performances at 6:30 and 8:30 p.m. Also, the Bohemian Caverns Jazz Orchestra will perform a re-imagining of Stravinksy’s Rites of Spring. 8 p.m. $15-$20.

>> Re-live the classic big band era tonight as the Glenn Miller Orchestra makes a visit to The Carlyle Club in Alexandria. Now a ghost band under the direction of trombonist Gary Tole, Miller and his group were among the most popular acts of the WWII era, with classics like “Moonlight Serenade”, “Tuxedo Junction” and “In The Mood”. Tickets to the 7:30 p.m. show are $32.

>> Trumpeter and local mainstay Michael Thomas will lead his quintet through a program of powerful hard bop tonight at the Mansion at Strathmore. 7:30 p.m. $30.

>> French singer-songwriter Violette returns to Twins Jazz tonight for 8 and 10 p.m. sets. $10 + $10 food/drink minimum.

>> Experimental music fans should head to The Dunes this evening for performances by the DC Improvisers Collective, Swiss trombonist Denis Beuret, groundbreaking flautist Elliott Levin and others. 8 p.m. $10.

>> Smooth jazz star Earl Klugh begins a four night stand of 8 and 10 p.m. sets tonight at Blues Alley. $43 + $12.50 minimum/surcharge.

>> Jazz Night in Southwest hosts vocalist Clynt Hyson and his band. 6 to 9 p.m. $5.

>> The Carlyle Club hosts a tribute to the masters of Latin jazz on Friday. The Pa’ Gozar Latin Band will play music by Celia Cruz, Oscar de Leon and more. 7 p.m. $15.

>> Kenneth Whalum III is a bold new voice who has already earned bona fides from influential musicians throughout New York’s crowded jazz community. He is sure to be labeled a “rising star” in the not-to-distant future, so be sure to catch him this Friday and Saturday in the intimacy of Bohemian Caverns. 8:30 and 10:30 p.m. sets. $20.

>> Formed just two years ago in Northern Virginia, Véronneau‘s blend of samba, bossa nova and gypsy jazz has already led to a successful recording and performances across North America and Europe. The band will perform 9 and 11 p.m. sets this Friday and Saturday at Twins Jazz. $15 + $10 food/drink minimum.

>> HR-57 features regulars Antonio Parker (Friday) and AJ Parham (Saturday). 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. $15.

>> Two of the city’s best young talents team up on Sunday at Bohemian Caverns, where guitarist Rodney Richardson‘s trio will join forces with versatile singer Lena Sekaly. Keyboardist Will Rast and drummer Larry Ferguson round out the group. 7 p.m. $12.

>> Over a career that spans 50 years, Herbie Hancock has established himself as a jazz legend and one of the music’s most innovative artists. The Washington Performing Arts Society presents this one-of-a-kind talent on Sunday at the Kennedy Center. 7 p.m. $35-$85 + fees.

>> CapitalBop returns to The Dunes on Sunday for its monthly D.C. Jazz Loft. This iteration features groups led by vocalist Jessica Boykin-Settles, drummer Nasar Abadey and others. 7 p.m. $10.

>> Blue Monday Blues hosts Tinaz Blues. 6 to 9 p.m. $5.

>> Swing Shift, a local 18-piece big band specializing in classic repertoire, performs 8 and 10 p.m. sets on Monday at Blues Alley. $20 + $12.50 minimum/surcharge.

>> A cappella group Ladysmith Black Mambazo is an icon in its native South Africa and has been spreading joy throughout the world since playing a key role on Paul Simon’s Graceland album in the ’80s. The ensemble will return to the area on Monday for a show at the Barns at Wolf Trap. The 8 p.m. show is sold out, but it’s worth contacting the box office for last minute availability.

>> Jimmy Bruno, one of Philadelphia’s most respected guitarists, plays 8 and 10 p.m. sets at Blues Alley on Tuesday. $25 + $12.50 minimum/surcharge.
