After a fatal shooting in Kensington, Md. that left one woman dead, Montgomery County police sought out the victim’s estranged husband, Philip Gilberti, as the suspect in the slaying. Police found Gilberti in his home Monday evening, dead of what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Local ABC affiliate WJLA, which has had some trouble with sending out breaking news alerts on other platforms, tried to tell its Twitter followers this latest development.
Quite the story-changing typo, isn’t it? The error would seem to imply that before taking his own life, Gilberti soiled himself. Police have made no such indication to that point in the details they’ve released so far about Gilberti.
But WJLA isn’t the first to accidentally turn a short, but critical, word into shit. Last November, while covering D.C. Fire Department labor negotiations, the Post’s Tim Craig inadvertently suggested what could only be called a messy, painful-sounding work schedule for the District’s firefighters:
Also, couldn’t argument be made 24 hours shits would be cheaper for city. Big fires last hours, so more OT would be paid if 12 hour shifts?

Hey, shit happens.
