>> Drummer Andrew Cyrille has been at jazz’s cutting edge since 1964, when he began an 11-year partnership with avant-garde pianist Cecil Taylor. He has also collaborated with greats like Mary Lou Williams, Freddie Hubbard and Oliver Lake. Cyrille will be performing at the Atlas tonight with his 21st Century Big Band Unlimited. The 12-piece ensemble features a number of local artists, including Brad Linde, Brian Settles and others. 8 p.m. $15-$25.

>> Few musicians show the versatility of Frank Vignola. With sessions under his belt that range from Madonna’s pop sheen to the straight-ahead swing of Lionel Hampton, Vignola has earned critical acclaim and is a first-call guitarist. Vignola will be at Blues Alley tonight, leading his own group through 8 and 10 p.m. sets. $25 + $12.50 minimum/surcharge.

>> There aren’t many guitarists who have a more unique and personalized technique than Stanley Jordan. His tapping style gives him a full sound that allows him to explore the full harmonic and melodic possibilities of any given piece. On Thursday, Jordan will begin a 4-night stand of solo 8 and 10 p.m. sets at Blues Alley. $27.50 + $12.50 minimum/surcharge.

>> Emy Tseng, a local vocalist specializing in Latin jazz standards, will perform 8 and 10 p.m. sets on Thursday at Twins Jazz. $10 + $10 food/drink minimum.

>> Saxophonist Marshall Keys has long been a familiar voice in the local scene, and he will be leading a quintet on Friday at Jazz Night in Southwest. 6 to 9 p.m. $5.

>> Ethel Ennis is one of the jazz community’s hidden treasures. She has performed for presidents, and with jazz royalty such as Duke Ellington and Benny Goodman. Ennis will be performing an 8 p.m. show on Friday at The Montpelier Arts Center in Laurel. $20.

>> The Young Lions have long been faves here at DCist, and were in fact one of the first jazz groups profiled on this site. The trio will return to Bohemian Caverns this Friday and Saturday for 8:30 and 10:30 p.m. sets. $18.

>> Aaron Walker is a talented drummer who has had extended stints with the likes of singer Abbey Lincoln and pianist Mulgrew Miller. Walker will be leading his own band on Friday and Saturday at Twins Jazz. 9 and 11 p.m. sets. $15 + $10 food/drink minimum.

>> HR-57 hosts saxophonist Antonio Parker (Friday) and bassist Kent Miller (Saturday). 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. $15.

>> Zakir Hussain is one of the most well-known classical Indian musicians in the world, and is universally recognized as a master of the the tabla, a percussion instrument common to South Asia’s Hindustani tradition. Hussain will appear with the Masters of Percussion on Saturday at the Kennedy Center in a performance produced by the Washington Performing Arts Society. 3 p.m. $15-$65.

>> Bohemian Caverns celebrates Women’s History Month and the arrival of cherry blossom season with pianist Eri Yamamoto, a native of Osaka, Japan. Yamamoto, who will be leading a trio, is known for her contemplative improvisations and lyrical compositions. 7 p.m. $15.

>> Sharon Raquel is a talented area vocalist who has performed with many of the city’s best. She will be performing with the Kash Wright Trio on Sunday at Twins Jazz. 8 and 10 p.m. sets. $10 + $10 food/drink minimum.

>> Max Fischer is a guitarist and singer-songwriter who straddles the line between the blues and rock, but with a jazzy harmonic sophistication thrown into the mix. Fisher will perform an 8:30 p.m. show on Sunday at the Bossa Bistro & Lounge. Call 202-667-0088 for cover information.

>> Blue Monday Blues hosts David Cole & Main Street Blues. 6 to 9 p.m. $5.

>> Internationally acclaimed cabaret singer Ute Lemper will team up with Germany’s Volger Quartet at the Kennedy Center on Monday for a program that will include classical repertoire influenced by non-classical elements, popular selections from Germany’s Weimar era and pre-WWII French chansons. The 7:30 p.m. show is sold out, but it’s worth contacting the box office for last minute availability.

>> Tom Mitchell has a classic guitar style that recalls the heyday of swing music. He will bring that sound to Blues Alley on Tuesday for 8 and 10 p.m. sets. $18 + $12.50 minimum/surcharge.
