Montgomery County police announced today that earlier in the week, an officer made one of the greatest traffic stops in the history of law enforcement:

Batman was pulled over.

The Dark Knight was pulled over on Route 29 near Prelude Drive in White Oak, Md. for driving without license plates. Instead of Maryland Vehicle Administration-approved tags, this erstwhile crime-fighter’s jet-black convertible featured plates stamped with the Caped Crusader’s logo, WTOP reports.

But this Batman bowed to law enforcement rather than blow off the cops and continue on whatever vigilante mission he was pursuing, hewing much more closely to the faux, hockey-pants-clad impostors at the beginning of 2008’s The Dark Knight than the actual superhero.

And, it turns out, this Batman has something of a spotty road history, including a flat tire last November that required the attention of Howard County police. One assumes that the Joker got away.

Also, an open-air Batmobile? That’s such a Joel Schumacher move.
