- This week, the Sixth Annual DCist Exposed Photography Show opened with back-to-back receptions. If you missed them, fear not—the show will remain at the Longview Gallery through April 1.
- We caught a glimpse of the cherry blossoms (so did Newt Gingrich) and spread the word that hanging on the trees or taking the flowers as a souvenir just isn’t OK.
- Virginia and Maryland were found to be ripe for corruption, Metro unveiled a new rush hour plan and map, Mike Daisey only dug his hole deeper during an appearance at Georgetown, talks of another government shutdown emerged again, and the D.C. Council introduced legislation on everything from money orders to medical marijuana.
- We saw 63 acts at South by Southwest and judged 16 that will be playing locally in the coming weeks, the 2011-2012 winter was ruled the warmest on record, Frank Gehry said he was open to changes to his controversial design for the Eisenhower Memorial, D.C. police kicked off the Street Smart campaign (be careful out there, walkers, cyclists and drivers!), Councilmember Vincent Orange (D-At Large) took some heat during a debate at the Black Cat, a Nigerian woman broke a standing record when she was caught with five pounds of heroin in her stomach at Dulles, hundreds marched to protest anti-LGBT violence, and Occupy D.C. interrupted the evening—twice.
- Construction workers found an unexploded 1,000-pound military bomb at a construction site near Nats Park (and then found some more), President Obama used sign language to thank a deaf supporter at a rally in Maryland, Virginians expressed their displeasure with Gov. Bob McDonnell and a slate of controversial laws passed by the state legislature, Mayor Vince Gray was accused of running a shadow campaign, the U.S. Secret Service helped an adorable family of ducks scamper through the White House fence, and D.C. Police Chief Cathy Lanier shamed national cell phone service providers for not doing more to help stop phone theft.
- George Washington University administrators did not allow the posting of fliers in bathrooms warning of anti-transgender violence, Harry Thomas, Jr. paid back another $20,000, Speaker of the House John Boehner urged President Obama to restore funding for a D.C. school voucher program, Metro announced that it would start an anti-sexual harassment campaign in April, Gray offered few specifics on a proposed Redskins training facility on Capitol Hill, D.C. proposed longer drinking hours and more traffic cameras as a means to raise money, and Batman was pulled over for driving without tags.
