Creative spaces from Good Hope Road up Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue will showcase the works of local fine artists, artisans and creative entrepreneurs all day. The festival will include performances by visual artists, dancers and actors throughout the day and into the night. Many of the spaces activated by LUMEN8Anacostia while temporary, will continue to operate through May and June.
>> NEXT at the Corcoran: Class of 2012 opens this Saturday. The exhibit celebrates the graduating students of the Corcoran College of Art + Design and gives the them the opportunity to present their work in a gallery setting. For the first time, the show will include both under graduate and graduate work. Opening reception is open to the public at 8 p.m.
>> Michelle Peterson-Albandoz is driven by a desire to shine light on the destructive relationship humans and technology have on nature as well as an aesthetic need to make pretty what others deem unfit. See Peterson-Albandoz’s Urban Forest on Thursday at Long View Gallery from 6:30 to 8 p.m.
>> This weekend, stop by the The Adah Rose Pop Up Gallery @ Kate’s. This two day art exhibit in a private residence in the Logan Circle neighborhood features artwork by local artists, including our own Angela Kleis. The Pop Up Gallery is located at 1328 Corcoran Street, NW, #2 and will host an opening reception on Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m.
>> Also on Saturday, take a walk over to the O Street Studios for Spring Open Studios. Meet artists and explore their work spaces. Film screenings, a bike clinic, the store at SCRAP-DC, food from local restaurants and vendors, and more is planned. 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
>> Hemphill Fine Arts will host a trunk show for Seattle designer Elizabeth Roberts’ WRAPHABILLEMENT collection. See innovation in outerwear, tonight from 5:30 to 8 p.m.
>> The fifth Fashion District will take place this Thursday. This celebration of fashion and design features local artists and their wares from 7:30 to 11 p.m. in Georgetown. Early Admission tickets start at $40, General Admission; $30 and After Party; $10.
>> Pyramid Atlantic celebrates 31 years in business with a Birthday Party Open House & Members Exhibition this Saturday from 2 to 6 p.m. The open house includes artists demonstrations, hands on activities, cupcakes, ice cream, goody bags and a poetry reading. $10.
>> At Artisphere, get in the mood to celebrate human space flight. Countdown to Yuri’s Night returns with an art exhibit, variety show and dance party. Saturday from 8 p.m. to 2 a.m. Tickets are $25 in advance and $30 at the door.
>> In conjunction with the Bethesda Art walk DC NOW, features new artworks by nationally renowned, D.C. based, contemporary artists. This fifth iteration of a pop-up project will be on display at Gallery B. Opening reception will take place Friday from 6 to 9 p.m.
>> The National Gallery of Art will present Lucy Walker’s Oscar-nominated documentary The Tsunami and the Cherry Blossom Thursday at 12:30 p.m. Walker’s 40-minute film is a remembrance of Japan’s tragic devastation from last year’s tsunami and a celebration of the promise of recovery.
>> Four the Sixth opens at Art Enables’ Off-Rhode Studio, showcasing the work by founding members of Studio In-Sight. Artist reception will take place this Saturday from 12 to 3 p.m.
>> Wayne Gonzales speaks at the Hirshhorn on Thursday at 7 p.m. in the Lerner Room
in conjunction with Dark Matters: Selections from the Collection.
>> Push Pull Play, opening at Target Gallery, focuses on interactive and toy inspired art. This exhibition is in participation with Minds Wide Open: Virginia Celebrates Children and the Arts 2012. Meet some of the artists during the reception on Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m.
