Nationals 2, Reds 1: Nothing in baseball changes the public’s opinion more favorably than a walk-off hit, and who needed it more than Jayson Werth? The $126 million man, so underwhelming to date in his career as a National, awoke this morning the hero. In the 13th inning of another low-scoring affair marked by strong starting pitching on both sides, Werth came to the plate with the bases loaded and hit a slow dribbler up the middle to drive in Danny Espinosa, who started the late-night rally on an infield single. Walks to Ryan Zimmerman and Adam LaRoche loaded the bases, giving Werth the chance to win back the love of the 26,000 in attendance. And he did.
