- This week was all about Space Shuttle Discovery, which captured the attention of thousands of residents when it flew over the city on Tuesday, which itself was something of a feat. (Some people mistakenly thought it was the Challenger.) The excitement continued as the shuttle was formally unveiled at its new home, the Udvar-Hazy Center, on Thursday.
- There were plenty of developments in the ongoing scandal involving Secret Service agents and Colombian prostitutes, the National Zoo celebrated four decades of pandas, Ian MacKaye turned 50, Hank the cat (and Virginia Senate candidate) was outed as a tax cheat, Mayor Vince Gray offered LivingSocial the deal of a lifetime, former Mayor Anthony Williams made a return to D.C. politics, and D.C. claimed a small portion of Arlington County.
- Hackers targeted D.C. government servers (and promised more attacks), higher fares went into effect for D.C. taxicabs, our resident D.C. United writer talked some smack on the New York Red Bulls (even after a frustrating draw with Montreal), and a national poll found that most Americans believe that D.C. should be able to spend its own money when and how it wants.
