Wizards 101, Bobcats 73: This game, well, it was not a hot ticket. Some people looking to dump their passes to last night’s matchup between one of the worst teams in NBA history and the Wizards needed to make repeated attempts before finding success. On StubHub, tickets were going for as little as $1.70. Too bad for the haters, because they missed the chance to see the Wizards run up a Globetrotters-style score on Michael Jordan’s Charlotte Bobcats. Nene led Washington in scoring with just 18 points, but the Bobcats defense was so thin, it was easy to spread around the scoring opportunities and show flashes of what might become a more cohesive team next season. John Wall, who scored 16 points and supplied 14 assists, called last night’s performance “the best we’ve been all season,” according to the Post. The season ends Thursday.
But the bigger story with the Wizards last night was owner Ted Leonsis giving team president Ernie Grunfeld an extension that will keep him at the Verizon Center through the end of the 2013-2014 season. Though Grunfeld’s record is woeful— 282-438 since he joined the organization in 2003—he has made some good deals, like shipping off Gilbert Arenas and JaVale McGee while trying, if in vain, to rebuild around John Wall.
