Oscar Ramiro Ortega (U.S. Park Police), the Associated Press reports.
Ortega, a resident of Idaho Falls, Idaho, allegedly shot at the White House using the Chinese-made weapon on the evening of November 11. He was arrested five days after the shooting following a search that involved D.C. police and many federal agencies spread across several states. Ortega was taken into custody by the Pennsylvania State Police at a hotel in Indiana, Penn.
Among the initial charges filed against Ortega was the attempted assassination of the president. (President Obama and his family were not in the building at the time.)
Prosecutors today added a firearms charge as well as “injury to a building” to the list of charges Ortega faces, the AP reported. Ortega’s attorney entered a plea of not guilty to the new charges.
