District Taco has finally put down brick-and-mortar roots in Penn Quarter, with an outpost on 1309 F St. NW. The Virginia-based taco chain opened yesterday, with lines going out the door. Fans have already tweeted their excitement and yelped their pleasure.
The first Yelp review was about their morning fare: “I’ve only been for breakfast so far, but my breakfast taco was AWESOME. I had the classic taco – simple with eggs, potatoes, cheese and salsa. It was delicious and a decent deal at $2.25.”
The next review offered the opening day strategy (going at 3 p.m., when the line was nonexistent) and a thorough degustation, “I ordered the pollo asado taco, chips with queso and a side of rice. Since everything is prepared by order it takes a little longer to get your meal – in my case 10 minutes even though there was no line. The chicken was great – nicely seasoned and crisp. No complaints. I was surprised at the small size of the taco but once I ate it it was quite filling. Though I can see why people order 2 tacos usually.” Also, the reviewer raved about the cane sugar soda.
Apparently, the beer license is on the way. The F Street location is closed this weekend (why, oh, why?!?!) and will be back serving up breakfast tacos on Monday. According to Carlos at the Arlington location, they’re still working out some details, but they hope to have it ready for seven-day-a-week service soon.
No word on whether District Taco will be reprising the taco eating contest, though.
