Courtesy PETAIt’s common knowledge that one does not make friends with salad, but tomorrow, the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals are hoping to buck that trend… by going nearly buck naked.
In celebration of National Bike to Work Day, PETA is jumping on the good-health bandwagon by dispatching their “Lettuce Ladies” to Farragut Square to greet tomorrow morning’s two-wheeled commuters.
The PETA volunteers will be wearing nothing but sheer bikinis decorated with strategically placed lettuce leaves while the pass out vegan jerky and brochures about switching to a vegetarian or vegan diet. The organization, in a press release, claims that the consumption of a pound of meat is the environmental equivalent of a sports-utility vehicle driving 40 miles. It also cites research by scientists at the University of Chicago stating that veganism is a more effective response to climate change than switching to a hybrid car.
“Bikers who want to pump up their health and help the planet can make the biggest impact by switching to a vegan diet,” one of the Lettuce Ladies said in the press release.
Either way, the Lettuce Ladies are just more reason to get on your bike and ride tomorrow. Just keep your eyes on the road.
