With a projected 875,000 people leaving the D.C. area this weekend for Memorial Day getaways, all the more reason for the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority to continue its massive repair schedule on Metrorail.
The Green and Red lines will be most affected this weekend, with a slight modification to the Yellow Line.
Beginning at 10 p.m. tonight, Red Line trains will run along a single track between the Forest Glen and Takoma stations while crews work on platform reconstruction and the installation of fiberoptic cables. Trains from Glenmont to Shady Grove will depart every 20 minutes, though trains traveling from Shady Grove to New York Avenue-Florida Avenue will leave every 10 minutes between 9 a.m. and 9 p.m.
On the Green Line, riders should be prepared for shuttle buses between Greenbelt and Fort Totten as Metrorail continues its installation of “Guarded #8” rail switches as recommended by the National Transportation Safety Board.
Yellow Line trains will terminate at Mt. Vernon Square; passengers going further north will need to switch to Green Line trains that will end at Fort Totten.
Nothing going on with the Blue and Orange lines.
And, as it’s a holiday, trains on Monday will run on a Sunday schedule.
