SAXOMOPHONE: The D.C. Jazz Festival kicks off today, so check our comprehensive guide and picks. Also, it’s Friday, so that means Jazz in the Garden from 5 to 8:30 p.m. in the National Sculpture Garden (700 Constitution Avenue, NW). If the weather holds up, that is.
BEST MOVIE ADAPTION OF A BOARD GAME EVER: Clue was both a great board game and an awesome movie. Play a quick round (it was Colonel Mustard in the dining room with the knife!) before heading out to a midnight showing of the 1985 movie adaption of the classic 1980s game at the E Street Cinema (555 11th Street, NW). $11.
THE DOCTOR IS IN: Dr. John brings his brand of New Orleans-inspired music to The Birchmere (3701 Mount Vernon Avenue, Alexandria) at 7:30 p.m. $35.
SATURDAY
FREE MUSEUMS THAT AREN’T USUALLY FREE: Enjoy free admission to nine off-the-Mall museums at this weekend’s Dupont-Kalorama Museum Walk. Visit the Anderson House, Dumbarton House, Fondo del Sol Visual Arts Center, Mary McLeod Bethune Council House National Historic Site, National Museum of American Jewish Military History, The Phillips Collection, The Textile Museum, the Woodrow Wilson House and the National Geographic Museum. Take the free shuttle bus, or walk between any of the participating museums. Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday from 1 to 5 p.m.
FOOD AND POPPED COLLARS: The 19th Annual Taste of Georgetown will showcase the cuisine of thirty of Washington, D.C.’s finest restaurants—including everything from Baked & Wired to Clyde’s, and plenty more—highlighting Georgetown’s culinary personalities and feature nearly sixty delectable dishes to sample, as well as wine pairings and the jazz talents of Blues Alley. 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Walking around is free, but tasting will cost you—$5 for one tasting ticket, $20 for five.
HIPSTERS IN THE POOL: Brightest Young Things is hosting the first of what is likely to many pool parties at the Capitol Skyline Hotel (10 I Street, NW). This one, which runs from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., is themed: you should dress like the hipster that you are. $15 gets you in.
SUNDAY
SCAVENGER HUNT: The Washington Post’s Annual Scavenger Hunt kicks off at noon in Franklin Square Park. Bring a team, pen/pencil, cell phone, copy of Sunday’s Washington Post Magazine, comfy shoes, weather-appropriate clothing, a sense of humor, and your finely tuned knowledge of the city, its history and its landmarks.
VIRGINIA WINES: The 31st Annual Vintage Virginia Wine Festival comes to Bull Run Park in Centreville (7700 Bull Run Drive) will feature wines from 32 Virginia vineyards. 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tickets are $30 here, $32 at gate.
CREEP: Radiohead’s show at the Verizon Center is sold out (Craigslist has some tickets available, of course), but you can always relive the last time they came to town by driving 40 miles down I-66, drenching yourself with water and then taking three hours to get back home.
