>> The Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority is meeting in a special session today for a discussion on one of the sticking points on the Silver Line extension to Dulles Airport and further into Loudoun County—union labor. WTOP reports that the extraordinary meeting might signal that the authority is willing to compromise on using union labor for the construction of the Silver Line/s second phase, one of the most contentious points for Virginia and Loudoun County. Gov. Bob McDonnell has said that if the authority doesn’t yank the union-friendly project labor agreement, Virginia could withhold up to $350 million in funding for the massive infrastructure project. (The vote and discussion are occurring as you read this; we’ll have updates later this morning.)
>> Beyond that whole pushing-a-reporter incident, yesterday was a tough day for D.C. Council Chair Kwame Brown. The Post reports that amid committee leadership changes he announced, rumors about his pending resignation from the city’s legislature reached such fevered pitch that he was forced to directly address them. “I have no plans to resign,” he said. “That is all I am going to say…I have no plans at this time to resign.” NBC4’s Tom Sherwood addresses some of the chess-like political strategy currently taking place in the mind’s of many of Brown’s colleagues.
>> Drive a little more slowly today—a new batch of speed cameras that went up around town a month ago will start dispensing real tickets today, reports WAMU. Up until this point, the 27 new cameras—the locations are here—were only issuing warnings to speeding motorists.
