David Bronner, CEO of Dr. Bronner’s Magic Soaps, was arrested near the White House today in what may well be one of the more creative protests we’ve heard of in a while—he caged himself to protest U.S. policies on the industrial production of hemp.

As part of his protest, Bronner locked himself inside an eight-square-foot cage with 12 industrial hemp plants, which he said have no use as a recreational drug, to protest the U.S. government’s ongoing ban on the growth of hemp for industrial purposes. Bronner said he imports 20 tons of hemp oil per year from Canadian farmers for his popular soaps and personal hygiene products, which are also known for their creative labels.

According to the Huffington Post, Bronner was eventually arrested—but it took D.C. firefighters and a chainsaw to get him out of his cage.
