Given the high temperatures suffocating the region today and tomorrow, Metro is allowing a two-day exception to one of it’s longest-standing rules:

Due the extreme heat, Metro will allow customers to carry and consume water on the system on Wednesday, June 20, and Thursday, June 21, 2012. The exception to Metro’s “no drinking” policy applies to water only — on buses, in stations and aboard trains — and will remain in effect through system closing on Thursday night.

Customers are encouraged to use containers that can be tightly secured and to use trash receptacles to dispose of any waste.
