Do you have plans tonight? Well if you don’t I have something for you to do. Get yourself over to the Hamilton and see one of the most dynamic live bands to hit our fine city in quite some time Rubblebucket. Haven’t heard of the eight-piece Burlington outfit yet? Well the band has been in D.C. before opening up for bands like Ozomatli and Los Amigos Invisibles but tonight, fresh off four sets at Bonnaroo, the band bring their freewheeling funk to a headlining set. Formed out of their passion for eclectic melodies by couple Alex Toth and Kalmia Traver the band mix afro-pop, kraut, funk and good-old indie rock into a mixture that is so unique it is almost unclassifiable. Today’s song of the day is a cut off Rubblebucket’s latest release Omega La La that was produced by Eric Broucek at the DFA studios (yes the DFA that brought you The Rapture and LCD Soundsystem. “L’Homme” is shape-shifting track that is reminiscent of Stereolab (the track is mostly sung in French) with buoyant horns and a gnarly synth line. While the mayb weather is hot and nasty there is no guarantee Rubblebucket’s rowdy show will be a reprieve from the heat.

Rubblebucket play tonight at The Hamilton (600 14th Street NNW) with Dinosaur Feathers. Starts 6:30pm. Tickets are $17.
